가회동 31번지의 한옥밀집지구의 중앙부분에 위치하고 있다. 넓은 대지에 ㄷ자형 안채와 ㄱ자형 별채와 또 다른 ㄱ자형 부속채가 배치되어있다. ㄷ자형 안채는 길에 직접 문간채가 면한 도시형 한옥의 전형적인 ㄷ자형 평면과는 다른 평면구성을 보여준다. 대문쪽(동쪽) 날개가 겹집으로 구성되면서, 안쪽(서쪽) 날개보다 폭이 넓고 길이가 짧다. 이 동쪽 날개에는 사랑방(또는 응접실이나 서재)이 마당을 바라보며 남향으로 구성된다. 현관과 툇마루를 중심으로 안채와 사랑방이 연결되는, 내부화된 평면구성을 보여준다.
안채의 몸체 부분은 세 칸 깊이로, 중안 칸에 방이 있고 앞뒤로 마루가 한 칸 씩 구성되어있다. 그리고 웃방 자리에 부엌이 끼어 들고 이에 잇대어 북쪽으로 목욕실과 변호가 덧붙여졌다. 한편 뒤쪽의 ㄱ자형 별채는 중앙의 마루를 중심으로 서쪽에 웃방과 안방이, 동쪽에 건넌방이 구성되어 있다. 한옥 몸체는 규모와 격식을 갖추고 있으나, 담장은 블록조에 미장 마감으로 되어있다.
Kahoi-dong No. 31-119 is located in the central part of Kahoi-dong No. 31, a Hanok concentrated area. On a large plot, there is a ‘ㄷ-digeut’ shaped inner quarters, a ‘ㄱ- giyeok’ shaped separate quarters, and another annex quarters. The ‘ㄷ-digeut’ shaped inner quarters have a different structure, compared with the city-style traditional Hanoks where the outer quarters are located on the road side of the house. Due to their being several wings in this Hanok, the east side (the main gate side) wing, is wider but shorter in length than the inner quarters (the west side) wing. This south-facing east side wing has a sarang-bang (outer quarter room for receiving visitors or study) that opens up to the outer courtyard. The floor plan shows that the porch and narrow verandah have become the internal central point which connects the inner and outer quarters.
The body of the main house is three kans (1kan=1.8m) in depth. The middle kan is a room and on either side of the room are ma-ru (wooden floors) measuring one kan each. A kitchen has been built on the site of the wutbang (a room connected to the main bedroom) and to the north of the kitchen a bathroom and toilet were added. For the separate ‘ㄱ -giyeok’ shape building at the back, there is a dae-cheong (the wooden floored main hall) which is the central point and to the west, there is a wutbang and An-bang (the main bedroom) and to the east, there is a guneonbang (a bedroom across from the main bedroom). All these Hanoks have good structure and scale in the traditional style and the block built wall is beautifully finished.
